Founded in London in 2010 and headquartered in Santa Monica, Headspace merged with on-demand care provider Ginger in 2021 and now pairs its meditation app ($12.99/mo or $69.99/yr) with coaching, therapy and psychiatry. Therapy is available in all 50 states at $0-35 per session for most insured members across 45+ plans, or $149 per session self-pay; psychiatry is generally available only through insurance or employer channels, and prescribers do not issue controlled substances. The business has tilted toward payer and employer distribution, cut staff in multiple rounds and moved its therapists to a contract network in 2025, and in September 2026 agreed to be acquired by Sword Health in a deal valued at up to $300M, expected to close in Q4.
