How Orforglipron Works
Orforglipron activates the same GLP-1 receptor as semaglutide: it slows gastric emptying, reduces appetite signals in the brain, and improves insulin response after meals. Because it is a small (non-peptide) molecule, it is absorbed from the gut without the fasting and small-sip-of-water rules that apply to oral semaglutide. In Lilly's phase 3 ATTAIN-1 trial, adults without diabetes on the highest dose lost an average of about 12% of body weight at 72 weeks, less on average than injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide in their own trials.

Taken as one tablet a day. Dosing starts at the lowest strength and steps up every few weeks to a maintenance dose to limit stomach side effects. Does Medicare cover Foundayo?

Standard Medicare Part D plans generally do not cover drugs prescribed only for weight loss. The time-limited Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which opened July 1, 2026 and runs through December 31, 2027, prices Foundayo at $50/month for Part D members who meet all of its eligibility requirements. Those rules exclude people with type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or fatty liver disease, so check with Medicare or your drug plan.
