Natural Cycles was founded in Stockholm in 2013 by physicists Elina Berglund Scherwitzl and Raoul Scherwitzl and in August 2018 became the first app granted FDA De Novo clearance as a Class II contraceptive device. It is not a telehealth prescriber: users log basal temperature via a thermometer, the NC° Band, Oura, Apple Watch or compatible Garmin devices, and the algorithm marks fertile days, with stated effectiveness of 93% typical use and 98% perfect use. The US annual plan runs about $149.99 including the NC° Band and is HSA/FSA-eligible. Its record includes a 2018 UK advertising ruling for overstating accuracy, a Swedish hospital's report of 37 unintended pregnancies, and a December 2025 class action (N.D. Cal.) alleging reproductive-health data was shared with Google, TikTok and other trackers.
