How the calculation works

Concentration = vial mg ÷ water mL. Volume = dose mg ÷ concentration. Units = volume × 100. A 5 mg vial with 2 mL of water is 2.5 mg/mL, so a 1 mg dose is 0.4 mL, or 40 units.

Tesamorelin is injected under the skin of the abdomen once daily. Rotating injection sites helps avoid irritation, and redness or itching at the site is one of the most common side effects listed on the label.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FDA-labeled tesamorelin dose?

▾

It depends on the product. Egrifta WR is 1.28 mg once daily (0.16 mL of the reconstituted 8 mg/mL solution). The older Egrifta SV is 1.4 mg once daily (0.35 mL). The two aren't interchangeable, so follow the label for the product you were prescribed.

How many units is 1 mg of tesamorelin?

▾

It depends on concentration. In a 5 mg vial mixed with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water (2.5 mg/mL), 1 mg is 0.4 mL, or 40 units. In a 10 mg vial with 2 mL (5 mg/mL), it is 20 units.

Is the tesamorelin dose different for men and women, or for weight loss?

▾

The labeled dose isn't split by sex. Tesamorelin is FDA-approved to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Use for general weight or fat loss is off-label, and those doses come from your prescriber. The calculator converts whatever dose you were prescribed; it doesn't pick one.

Do I need to count units with Egrifta?

▾

Egrifta's label specifies the volume to inject, so you measure in mL: 0.16 mL for WR, 0.35 mL for SV. On a U-100 insulin syringe that's 16 and 35 units respectively. Compounded vials come in different strengths, which is when you need the calculator.

How long does a mixed tesamorelin vial last?

▾

Egrifta WR's label says one reconstituted vial provides daily doses for 7 days and is stored at room temperature, with leftover solution discarded. Compounded vials have their own beyond-use dates set by the pharmacy, so check the label.
