What metformin is
Metformin is an inexpensive generic oral medication that has been the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes in the US since the 1990s. Longevity interest comes from animal studies and observational data in people with diabetes; the proposed TAME trial, designed to test whether metformin delays age-related disease, has not yet produced results.
