BetterHelp, owned by Teladoc Health (NYSE: TDOC) since 2015, is the largest direct-to-consumer online therapy platform in the US. Cash-pay pricing runs $70–$100 per week (about $280–$400 per month), with an average $23 per-session copay for members whose insurance is accepted. Its therapists do not prescribe medication or make formal diagnoses, so patients who need psychiatric medication must go elsewhere. In March 2023 the FTC finalized an order finding that BetterHelp shared consumers' sensitive mental-health information, including email addresses and intake answers, with Facebook, Snapchat, Criteo and Pinterest for ad targeting despite promising to keep it private. The company paid $7.8 million for consumer refunds and is barred from sharing health data for advertising. Trustpilot rates it 3.8/5 across about 9,700 reviews; praise centres on the ease of switching therapists, while complaints cover billing after cancellation and slow support.
